Tension Stiffening Affected by Radiation-induced Volume Expansion of Aggregate

The tension stiffening behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) prisms, affected by the aggregate volume expansion induced neutron irradiation, were numerically investigated using a rigid body spring network model. First, model was validated comparison with uniaxial test results wet- and dry-cured (with contraction concrete) RC prisms. Subsequently, different degrees strain applied to elements in prism loading simulated again. Tension decreased under larger radiation-induced owing corresponding decrease tensile strength increasing damage, this changed considerably according restraint condition. Indeed, Young’s modulus restrained after than that unrestrained expansion. However, compressive stress effectively transmitted rebar during loading; indicated could maintain its integrity even 0.5% linear
